Thursday, Feb 20th 7-8 pm (Mountain Time)

Program will address the training requirements of optometrists* for licensure covering the following areas: 

  • best practices for opioid prescribing
  • potential harm of inappropriately limiting prescriptions to chronic pain patients
  • best practices for prescribing benzodiazepines
  • recognition of substance use disorders
  • referral of patients with substance use disorders for treatment
  • use of the electronic prescription drug monitoring program 

Zoom link will be provided by email a few days prior to the meeting date. 

*Exemption Note:

Optometrists who meet one of the following conditions may be exempt from Substance Use Prevention Training:

  • Maintain a national board certification that requires equivalent substance use prevention training; or
  • Attests to the Board that they do not prescribe opioids 

Please note that COA programs are not COPE-approved credits, however, these credits are approved by the COA’s Continuing Education Committee, and are accepted for license renewal in Colorado.
