Scope of Practice and Prescribing Information

Colorado state law allows optometrists who hold a current Colorado therapeutic license AND a current DEA registration to prescribed Schedule III, IV, V and non-scheduled anelgesics for ocular pain and inflammation. A DEA License is NOT required to prescribe non-controlled substances, however, we encourage ODs in the state of Colorado to obtain a DEA license.
